India has marked the first anniversary of the Mumbai attacks that paralysed its financial capital and cost the lives of 166 people.
Prayer ceremonies and candlelight vigils were to be held at a number of sites on Thursday, where the victims, including 25 foreigners, were killed.
Security forces paraded through the city, showing-off armoured vehicles worth 1.3 billion rupees ($27.7m) as part of its new plan to beef up security in the city.
In the aftermath of the assaults India's security forces were heavily criticised for their failure to prevent the attacks. Many argued the police lacked the proper training and equipment to deal with the situation.
Men and women of all age groups gathered in front of the Taj Mahal Hotel, one of two luxury hotels targeted by the attackers, at sunset on Wednesday and held a vigil in memory of the victims.
