Amr Zaki may have declared himself fit for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, but it appears the Egyptian technical team have no plans to use him in Ghana.
The Zamalek striker, once the toast of Europe as he was banging in the goals for Wigan Athletic in the English Premiership in the first half of last season, has struggled with a hamstring injury of late.
But he declared himself fit over the weekend and ready to help The Pharaohs to a third-successive African continental title, but he has allegedly been told to forget about it by national team coach Hassan Shehata.
Shehata has had his problems up front, but was able to include Zaki's Zamalek teammate Mido in his preliminary squad for the tournament.
The other forwards in the squad are Emad Meteb (Al Ahly), Ahmed Raouf (ENPPI), Al-Sayed Hamdi (Petrojet), Geddo (Ittihad), Mohamed Zidan (Dortmund, Germany), with the final 23-man selection to be named before the deadline of December 31.
